Slums

In the year 2000 the leaders of 189 countries have made the whole world a promise. They put down this promise in the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDG's). The eight aims must lead to a 50% reduction of the worldwide poverty in 2015.

The eight Millennium Development Goals are:

1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Achieve universal primary education
3. Promote gender equality and empower women
4. Reduce child mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
7. Ensure environmental sustainability, safe drinking water and less people in slums
8. Develop a Global Partnership for Development

FlexiHome focuses on point 2 and 7.2; All children in the world are entitled to primary education and 7; establishing less slum occupants worldwide.

MDG 2: Achieve universal primary education

At present there are 114 millions children (of which 65 million are girls) worldwide who don't go to school. Good quality primary education is the best way to fight poverty. onderwijs Children learn to read, write and do math. This comes in handy if they need information for their work. The literate have access to information on healthy nourishment, medicine and preventive measures for sicknesses.

Education also contributes to a decrease in infant mortality. Girls who go to school will pass on a broader knowledge to their children and will have a better economic position when they are older. Education is essential for the social stability and the economic development of a community. Educated children are the engine of social progress and therefor the engine of the economic growth.

A decent education starts with decent educational surroundings. FlexiHome is able to build schools that provide permanent, decent, hygienic surroundings. These schools can vary from small to very large in scope.

MDG 7: Less people in slums

At present a third of the world's population are slum occupants. In 2001, in a world-wide research, 924,000,000 slum occupants were counted. When the current trend continues in 2020, 1.5 billion people will live in slums.

The vast majority of these slum occupants will not have acces to basic provisions, such as appropriate housing, access to clean water, sanitation, education, health and employment. With the intensification of the efforts this increase could be reduced with 570 million. There is a call to improve the living conditions in existing slums as well as to reduce the arising of new slums.

FlexiHome offers cheap, appropriate, permanent housing for slum occupants worldwide! Flexihome works on a durable living environment. See here an example of a basic house:
